The Story
The week before
the turn
Autumn sets usually arrive too late — all rust and bare branches. Maple Whisper is the week before: the sugar already in the leaf, the green still holding, everything about to happen. Our colourist mixed it standing under the courtyard maple with a jar of sap syrup for reference, which is a sentence we are aware sounds invented.
The leaves are the delicate part. Each is cut and laid into wet gel with tweezers, then flooded and cured so it appears suspended rather than stuck — pressed botany, not decal. Between them, oat glitter is settled in two grades so the sparkle recedes into depth, and a pearl is bedded low where a stem would meet the branch.
Wear the season a week early; it suits you better.
